Town centre |
The town centre, aka "Centro" has actually become only one of several hubs of Fortalezian activity. However, it remains the city's historical centre, and charming mansions built in the late XIXth century can still be seen in some streets such as Senador Pompeu. Between Praça do Ferreira, Praça dos Leões and Praça José de Alencar, you'll find a number of busy streets with countless stores offering clothes, hardware, shoes or CDs (no chance you'll miss the latter!), "lanchonetes" (i.e. cafetarias)... During business hours, these streets can be pretty noisy as street vendors try to shout louder than the forró streaming from huge loudspeakers outside music stores in order to sell revolutionary pressure-cooker seals, breakthrough TV antennas... We just love it! |
